Summer 1

Welcome to Sparrows 1!

We hope you have had a lovely break and you are ready for the summer term!

This half term, our focus subjects are Art and History. In Art, we will be learning about the artist Dan Mather. We will be creating our own artwork, focusing on patterns using a range of printing techniques.

In History, our topic is holidays, past and present. We will explore how holidays have changed over time, including what holidays used to be like, where people travelled to, and how this differs from the holidays people enjoy today. We will also look at different types of holidays and compare how they are similar and different.

In Maths, we will be learning about place value within 100, as well as exploring money and time.

In English, we will be studying the story Beegu. Using this story, we will write instructions about how to look after an alien and what might be needed to make them feel happy. We will also create our own narratives, using our ideas to innovate and adapt the story.

In Year 1, all of our children access Read Write Inc., meaning children will have the opportunity to read and develop their spelling on a daily basis.  In the classroom, we have a wide range of literature that children can access in the reading corner.  The books we provide are diverse and set an appropriate level for our Year 1 children to enjoy. 

PE is on a Tuesday morning and a Wednesday afternoon every week.  The children need to make sure they have their PE Kit in school every day. For this half-term, the children will be developing the fundamental movement skill of overarm throwing, developing and applying the skill in different situations.
