Welcome to Eagles
Welcome to the final half term for our incredible Year 6 pupils! As we approach the end of an unforgettable journey through Barden Primary School, we have a fantastic line-up of events and activities to celebrate all the hard work, achievements, and friendships made along the way.

This will be our Year 6 pupils’ last Sports Day at primary school, and we can’t wait to cheer them on as they take part in a variety of exciting events, don't forget to wear your team colour of Blue, Yellow, Green or Red!
Leavers’ Trip to Gulliver’s World – Friday 27th June- As a well-deserved treat for their dedication and achievements, Year 6 will enjoy a thrilling day out at Gulliver’s World. It’s a chance to make more memories, have fun with friends, and celebrate everything they’ve accomplished this year.
End-of-Year Production – ‘Do you remember the first time…’ Our talented Year 6 pupils are busy rehearsing for their final school play, ‘Do you remember the first time..’ This fun and energetic performance will showcase their acting, singing, and dancing skills — and promises plenty of laughs and heart-warming moments. Families are invited to attend the final performance on Wednesday 16th July.
As part of our Forest School sessions this half term, Year 6 will explore the world of the Vikings through hands-on outdoor activities. They will have the chance to learn traditional skills such as whittling and carving using safe tools, just like Viking craftsmen. They’ll also try their hand at building shelters inspired by Viking longhouses and cooking over an open fire — much like the Vikings would have done.
In English, we will be reading "The Lion and Albert" a humorous monologue written by Marriott Edgar, a well-known British comic poet and scriptwriter. The poem is set in the seaside town of Blackpool, a popular holiday destination in England, and it revolves around the misadventures of a young boy named Albert Ramsbottom. We will spend time immersing the poem: exploring context, dialect, vocabulary and performance poetry. Our writing opportunities for this unit will be writing diary entries and creating short flashback stories.
In Maths, we will be completing projects which have been designed to explore maths in real life contexts, allowing children to see how important maths is in all aspects of life. As well as this we have looked to provide cross curricular links where appropriate, for example, including tasks that develop design and technology skills and geographical knowledge. They also provide a great opportunity to explore and develop enterprise.
In History, we will learn about how the Vikings invaded Britain. We will research how the Vikings lived and how the longboats were so vital for their success. We will learn about the monastery in Lindisfarne and why it was valuable to the Vikings.
In Art,we will be investigating features of Viking craftsmanship. We will be looking for the common patterns and motifs that were incorporated into the Vikings jewellery. We will then design and create a piece of jewellery from clay.
