4- Woodpeckers
Welcome to Woodpeckers!
Teacher: Mr Waris
Teaching assistant: Miss Collins

Welcome back! We hope you have had a lovely break and are ready for the Autumn term! This half-term, our topic is history-based, and it is all about exciting Egyptians!
Maths
This half term, we will be focusing on place value and addition and subtraction in our main maths lessons. In addition, every afternoon we will take part in maths fluency sessions, where we will explore each times table in depth.
These sessions are designed to support the Year 4 Multiplication Check in June, so it’s vital that children also practise regularly at home. We will be using TT Rockstars in class to help with this, and you’ll find a link below so children can continue their practice at home as well!

English and Guided Reading
Our class novel in Guided Reading this half-term is 'Rumaysa'.
In English, we are basing our learning on 'Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx'. We will paint a picture in the reader's mind of Marcy’s journey to Egypt and create instructions on how to successfully enter the Sphinx.
PE
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please be aware that your child's PE kit will remain in school until half term.
Science
In science this half term, we will begin by 'Grouping and Classifying Living Things'. We will use our scientific knowledge to group living organisms based on their features and learn how to classify them into different groups.
Later in the term, we will move on to a topic in chemistry: States of Matter. In this unit, We will learn to identify and observe the three main states of matter — solids, liquids, and gases — and understand how materials can change between these states.
History
This term, our key enquiry question is: "Why did the Ancient Egyptian civilisation last for so long?"
We will explore life in Ancient Egypt, including what made this civilisation so successful and enduring. We will learn about key aspects such as mummification, civilisation and the significance of the Egyptian pyramids.
Art
In Art, we will be linking our work to our History topic on Ancient Egypt by designing and creating canopic jars. We will also explore and understand different artistic styles, with a particular focus on the work of Alberto Giacometti, studying his unique approach to sculpture and form.
Computing
In Computing this term, we will be learning about what the internet is and how it works. This will include exploring networks, how information is shared online, and how websites function.
We will also be covering important topics related to online safety, helping children understand how to stay safe and make responsible choices when using the internet.
Life Skills
This half term, our focus will be on the topic ‘Being Me in My World’. We will explore the different jobs and roles within school, what it means to be a school citizen and how to build positive classroom relationships. We will also be learning about and understanding the importance of the Learning Charter.
