Welcome to Wagtails 2!

Spring Term 1 2026

Our history-led topic this half-term is 'Space Invaders'.  We will be finding out about Neil Armstrong and how he contributed to international achievement.   In DT, we will be evaluating existing products, designing and making moon buggies, focussing our learning on mechanisms – wheels and axels.  We will use this knowledge to build a movable vehicle that can travel on a bumpy terrain.

In English, we will continue to write our part-narrative based around the story 'Jack and the Baked Beanstalk' by Colin Stimpson. In our non-fiction unit, we will write a set of instructions: 'How to Plant a Sunflower'

 In Maths, we will be developing our money and multiplication and division skills.

Our Class Novel is 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark' by Jill Tomlinson.

How you can help... listen to your child read every day, talk about the text and any new words you find! Log in to Oxford Owl and help your child find their ebook. If your child is in the guided reading group, they should change their book at least once per week.  Please sign their reading record book.
For maths, practise counting forwards and backwards in steps of 2, 5, 10 from zero.

PE:

Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school. This should not be taken home until the end of the term, unless it needs washing.
