Welcome to Swallows 2!

Autumn Term 2026

Welcome back everyone. Hope you all had an amazing summer break and are ready for the year ahead!

Our History-led topic this half-term is 'Burnley Back in Time.'  We will be finding out about the significant places in Burnley, learning about the history of Towneley Hall and discover what children played with during the Victorian times. We will also look at how schools in the Victorian times compare to schools today!  In Art, we will be investigating painting and observational drawings. Our final masterpiece will be a Lowry inspired mill scene. 

In English, we are reading 'Way Home for Wolf' by Rachel Bright.  We will find out all about a character and write our own animal adventure story. In our non-fiction writing, we will be writing an explanation text which tells the reader all about animals that live on the tundra. 

 In Maths, we will be developing our place value skills and learning ways to add and subtract.

Our Class Novel is 'Meerkat Mail' by Emily Gravett.

P.E. Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

Please make sure that your child has the correct kit in school.

How you can help... listen to your child read every day, talk about the text and any new words you find! Log in to Oxford Owl and help your child find their ebook. If your child is in the guided reading group, they should change their book at least once per week. Please sign their reading record book. For maths, practise counting forwards and backwards in steps of 2, 5, 10 from zero.
