Welcome to Sparrows 1!

We hope you have had a lovely break over the half-term!

This half-term, our focus topics are History and DT.  Our History topic this half-term is called 'Cracking Cricketer'. In this topic, the children will be learning about what it is to be significant and who is significant to them/ who is significant in the world.  We will learn about who Learie Constantine was and the reasons he was such an influential person.

Our DT topic this half-term is food and nutrition. We will be making our own Caribbean inspired fruit smoothie! The children will be exploring different smoothies from around the world. They will be learning how to prepare food in a safe and hygienic way, as well as knowing  a variety of methods for preparing food e.g. cutting,  grating, slicing, peeling. 

In Maths we are exploring place value within 50, ensuring we are confident with our numbers up to 50. 

In English, we use will be looking at a fairytale.  We will be using the story 'The Three Little Pigs' to support our learning.  The children will be exploring the book, discovering the characters and writing their own version of this story. 

In Year 1, all of our children access Read Write Inc., meaning children will have the opportunity to read and develop their spelling on a daily basis.  In the classroom, we have a wide range of literature that children can access in the reading corner.  The books we provide are diverse and set an appropriate level for our Year 1 children to enjoy. 

PE is on a Tuesday morning and a Wednesday afternoon every week.  The children need to make sure they have their PE Kit in school every day. For this half-term, the children will be developing the fundamental movement skill of overarm throwing, developing and applying the skill in different situations.
