Topic Home Learning Week Beginning 22nd June, 2020

Week Beg: 15th June, 2020

Topic:   Dr Martin Luther King

For this week’s work we will be looking at Dr Martin Luther King and you will need the link to the BBC Home learning page https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhry382

Activity 1:

Watch the first video:  Learn more about the life of Dr Martin Luther King

Once you have watched the video read through the notes from the video transcript.

Watch the second film from CBBC Horrible Histories to find out more about the famous man.

Activity 2:

Click on the link to rearrange the pieces to make the jigsaw of Martin Luther King.

Activity 3:

Complete one of the reading comprehension tasks about Martin Luther King (see separate PDF document) There are three different reading levels with answers. The first is the easiest, the second harder and the third the hardest. You could try your child with the easy one to begin then work up to the hardest and as they read more of the similar information the more detail they should be able to give in their answers

Activity 4:

Make a fact file about Dr Martin Luther King. Remember to include headings and sub headings to show how you have organised your information.

You could include:

Who he is (when he was born, died, his parents where he lived)

His childhood (schools, education, friends)

Why he became famous (what did he spend his life doing, his speeches)

How the world changed (special days, changes in America)

Look at The Life Of Martin  Luther King powerpoint (separate document) if you need more ideas before you start.

Exercise/active task

Hopefully you have managed seven days of these fitness challenges so far. Keep going! Catch up any days you have missed. Can you practise some days before starting a new one?

https://www.barden.lancs.sch.uk/

Look at the challenges on the website.

Try and beat some challenges that have been set by the teachers at Barden

Perhaps you could design a new activity that we can all try. Show us on the blog or write out the instructions for us all to try. Look at other ways to keep fit.

Each day it is recommended that we do an hour of exercise. Can you do 60 minutes every day for a whole week?

Go on the Go Noodle website it has all sorts of fun dances and exercises

https://app.gonoodle.com/

I’m a Believer is still our favourite dance song but there are some great workouts which make us use lots of different muscles. Try Total Motion for a full workout.

Activity 1:

Watch the first video:  Learn more about the life of Rosa Parks

Once you have watched the video read through the notes from the video transcript.

A great way to learn about the past is to ask questions. Think of some questions you would like to find out  about Rosa Parks and keep them to use in activity 2.

Listen to the song from CBBC Horrible Histories https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/watch/horrible-histories-song-rosa-parks-sat-on-a-bus

And watch the second video: How did the actions of Rosa Parks change history.

Activity 2:

Look at the last video:  The Life and Works of Rosa Parks.

Did you manage to answer any of your questions that you wrote about Rosa Parks in Activity 1?

If there are some of your questions that you didn’t answer, try using the internet to find the answers. This website might be useful

https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/history/general-history/rosa-parks/

Activity 3:

Think about what you have learnt about Rosa Parks. Which order would you put these pictures in to tell the events of her life?  Draw another picture you could use somewhere in this sequence.

Activity 4:

Make a poster telling others about Rosa Parks. Don’t forget to include the key events and pictures.  Tell people who she is and why she is now famous. How did things change after her actions? What did she go on to do? Include big clear headings on your poster and make sure the writing can all be seen.  Make it so that others want to stop and read your poster.

Activity 5:

Take a picture of your poster, share it on the blog and let everyone on the blog see what you have learnt. Well done.

Diary Checklist

Week Beg: 1st June, 2020

Topic:   Eid Celebrations

Activity 1:

Write a diary entry for a day in your Eid celebrations.

Use the diary entry checklist to remind you how we write a diary (see seperate document)

Tell us how you celebrated, who you celebrated with, what your favourite part of the day was, what special clothes you wore and what special food you ate (If you have photos to include that would be even better or draw pictures to support what you have said in your diary)

For those of you who did not celebrate Eid think about another special time you have had. This could be a birthday, a holiday, a special visit to a relative.

Activity 2:

Imagine you can choose any celebration at all.

Design your own special event.

Draw pictures to show:

  • where you would like the celebration to be and how you would decorate that place
  • who you would like at the party
  • what special gifts you would like to receive or give
  • what special clothes you would wear
  • food you would have
  • a special song or type of music you would play

Activity 3:

People decorate their hands for Eid using Henna.  We looked at some Henna designs in class.

Draw around your hand. Cut your hand out. On your hand draw a design you would like for your special celebration.  It can include any pattern or animal or item that you choose. Search using google if you are stuck for ideas. Usually henna is brown but maybe you would like to use many colours.

Exercise/active task

After the half term you might need some help getting started with some exercise again. Maybe you could include these ideas for some starter activities.

https://www.barden.lancs.sch.uk/

Look at the challenges on the website.

Try and beat some challenges that have been set by the teachers at Barden
