Welcome toBarden Primary SchoolONLY MY BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME

PSHE

Our vision and values are at the heart of our PSHE education. It is a curriculum subject that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

At Barden we will be teaching a mindful approach to PSHE, which brings together Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education, emotional literacy and social skills in a comprehensive scheme of learning.  A lesson a week with carefully selected resources, helps teachers to focus on tailoring the lessons to their children’s needs and to enjoy building the relationship with their class, getting to know them better as unique human beings.

Every year group progresses through lessons which focus on key themes:

Each lesson will have different parts –

The Jigsaw Charter will help you feel safe and respected.

Connect Us is when you will play some games.

Calm Me time will help you relax and manage your feelings.

Open My Mind will focus your thoughts on the lesson topic.

Tell Me or Show Me is when you will be taught new skills and information.

Let Me Learn is where you will have a chance to put these into practise.

Help Me Reflect is when you will be able to think about how you feel about your learning and your progress.

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote values in schools to ensure our children leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. The children are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. The children are taught about democracy through different elements of our curriculum; however, our school council really allows the children to witness this in action.

The Fundamental British Values are:

  • Democracy
  • Rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
