History at Barden
History curriculum intent
At Barden Primary School we offer a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum ensuring the progressive development of historical concepts, knowledge and skills, and for the children to develop a love for History. We aim to inspire a curiosity and fascination about history that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
We strive to teach children to enjoy learning about the past and to have a better understanding of the society in which they live.
The aims of teaching history in our school are:
to inspire curiosity to discover more about the past;
to enable children to know about significant events in British history and understand how things change over time;
to develop a sense of chronology;
to have some knowledge and understanding of historical development in the wider world;
to develop in children, the skills of enquiry, investigation, analysis, evaluation, debate, problem solving and presentation.
Where ever possible the history curriculum is enhanced by trips and visitors, as these bring our curriculum to life creating lifelong memorable experiences.
At Barden we have created our own new and exciting curriculum that is tailored to the needs and interests of our children following the National Curriculum. We have planned progressive skills throughout the school in each year group that are woven through our curriculum ,ensuring ALL children have access to the history curriculum.
Our school curriculum map looks like this for
2020- 2021.
Highlighted yellow are the drivers for our history curriculum.
