days of the week intro.wav

Today is Friday, the last day of our school week.  I wonder what fun things we will do today.  Can you remember what day it was yesterday?  Yes it was Thursday.  What day will it be tomorrow?  It will be Saturday.  Today's date is Friday 2nd October 2020.  There are 31 days in October so there are a lot of days left in this month.

Did you feel the changes in your body?  What happened to your heart beat?  Was your chest rising up and down faster?  That is because your lungs had to work harder to help you breathe.

Letters and Sounds

Let's recap the sounds we have learnt so far

intro to letters and sounds.wav

Today we are going to learn a word.  Words are usually a group of letters, however there are 2 words that are just a letter by themselves 'a' is a word and a letter and the new word we are looking at today is 'I.'  It is written as a capital letter and when it is by itself we say it's name.

Can you say some sentences that have the word 'I' in them.  Have a go - try saying 5 different sentences.

However when I is with another letter we say it's sound so the word 'It,' 'In' and 'Is' are sounded out.
Practise writing 'I' in the air with your magic finger, write it on the floor, write it on someone's back.  Practise writing the word 'I' in your books.  Remember to hold the pencil correctly.

Reading and Writing Time

Today we are going to look at our names.  It is really important that we learn to recognise and write out names correctly.

First we are going to look at what letters are in our names.  Ask your grown up to write your name (with the proper formation) on a piece of paper and get them to cut each letter up.  See if you can order the letters to make your name.

The next task is your writing task - your parents have been sent a writing task for you to complete so have a go at that now.

Snack time - I think we deserve it as we have been working hard and we need to eat some food to give us energy.  Can you remember what part of the body milk is really good for?  Yes that's right your bones and teeth.  I am going to have a crunchy carrot for my snack this morning.

Story Time

Remember to talk about the story when you have listened to it.  Who were the characters in the story?  What happened at the end of the story?

Rhyme Time

Yesterday we began to learn the rhyme 'Hickory Dickory Dock,'  we learnt 2 verses.  Today we will add the third verse.  Listen to how the words rhyme.  Rhyming means that the words sound the same at the end of the word.

Hickory Dickory Dock,
The mouse ran up the clock.
The clock struck one,
The mouse ran down!
Hickory Dickory Dock.

Hickory Dickory Dock,
The bird looked at the clock,
The clock struck two 2,
Away she flew,
Hickory Dickory Dock

Hickory Dickory Dock,
The dog barked at the clock,
The clock struck three 3,
Fiddle-de-dee,
Hickory Dickory Dock!
