Impact of PE & Sport Funding
Quality of Teaching & Staff Development

Specialist coaches were deployed to support teaching staff in the delivery of high-quality PE lessons across the school.

The PE Coordinator was released to drive curriculum development and upskill staff in key areas of the PE curriculum.

The PE Lead and Physical Activity Lead were given dedicated time to monitor, assess and evaluate PE provision, ensuring a consistent, high-quality approach across all year groups.

Targeted CPD opportunities were provided to address identified staff development needs and strengthen curriculum delivery.

Specialist sports coaches were employed to enhance both curriculum provision and extra-curricular sport.
Participation & Inclusion

Additional opportunities were created for inactive pupils to engage in sport through targeted sessions delivered by specialist coaches and teaching staff.

Sports Crew leaders were trained to deliver structured games for Key Stage 1 pupils, increasing activity levels during break and lunchtimes.

Pupils were encouraged to take on leadership roles as Sports Ambassadors, attending cluster meetings and representing the school in wider sporting discussions.

The range of extra-curricular clubs was broadened, offering both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils a wider variety of sporting activities during lunchtimes and after school.

Enrichment activities delivered by specialist coaches provided all children with access to new and diverse sporting experiences.
Competition & Wider Opportunities

Competitive sporting opportunities were significantly increased through both intra-school and inter-school competitions.

Support was provided across key areas including PE lessons, CPD, targeted interventions, competition participation, and raising the profile of sport within school and the wider community.
Whole-School Physical Activity

Active learning strategies were successfully embedded across the curriculum, increasing daily opportunities for physical activity.

OPAL play was further developed and embedded into the school day, enhancing pupils’ ability to achieve the recommended 60 active minutes per day.
During the academic year 2025–2026, we at Barden Primary School aim to:

Buy into the Burnley School Sports Partnership to enhance competitive and participation opportunities.

Release the PE Subject Lead to support teaching staff with the delivery of high-quality PE and provide future CPD opportunities.

Enable the Sports Specialist to support staff across Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with planning, teaching and assessment in PE.

Develop targeted intervention programmes for children who need to improve specific fundamental movement skills and for those identified as physically inactive.

Use specialist coaches to provide extra-curricular activities for children in KS1 and KS2.

Provide Tots on Tyres sessions for children in EYFS.

Provide opportunities for Year 5 to take part in Bikeability Level 1 and Level 2.

Provide opportunities for Year 6 to take part in Bikeability Level 1 and Level 2.

Enable the School Sport Coordinator (SSCo) to provide CPD for staff and support the effective monitoring of the Sports Premium.

Engage in cluster competitions within the local community, focusing on participation for all pupils and providing opportunities to compete against other schools.

Organise both inter-school and intra-school competitions to promote higher levels of competitiveness and participation within school.

Promote sport and physical activity through themed sports days and whole-school events.

Invite external agencies and specialists to promote sport as a tool for improving physical activity and wellbeing.

Provide staff with opportunities to develop their own practice through targeted CPD.

Develop sustainable links with local community sports clubs to promote pathways into sport and lifelong physical activity.

Provide inactive children with opportunities to engage in extra-curricular clubs within school.

Continue to raise the profile of dance across the school.

Provide top-up swimming sessions for identified pupils in KS2.

Upskill three additional members of staff to oversee and promote active learning across the curriculum.

Continue to develop and embed OPAL play to enhance high-quality, active play opportunities during break and lunchtime provision.
