Autumn 1

Welcome to Year 4! We hope you had a restful and relaxing summer holiday and are ready for an amazing year in Year 4! Here’s all the exciting thing we’ll be getting up to!

English

In English, we will be reading Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. Inspired by this story we will be writing a setting description and a set of instructions on ‘How to Solve the Riddle of Sphinx’.

Reading

This half-term we will be reading Rumaysa: A Fairy Tale By Radiya Hafiza.

Maths

This half-term we will start by develop our understanding of place value to 4 digit numbers. We will be comparing, ordering, rounding and using number lines. After we will be developing our skills in addition and subtraction and using formal methods to solve problems.

History

Our history topic this half-term is: Exciting Egyptians! We will begin by learning about some different ancient civilisations and then delve deeper into the Egyptians. We will learn all about who they were, about their pharaohs, pyramids and mummification. We will also investigate why the River Nile was so important to their civilisation.

Science

In Science, we will be learning all about animal classifications. We will learn about vertebrates and invertebrate and the different animal groups within. We will also learn about animal classifications keys and be drawing some of our own.
