5- Jays
Welcome to Jays 5!
Teacher: Miss Jackson
Teaching assistant: Mrs Akhtar
Welcome back!! We hope you had a wonderful summer holiday. We can't wait to hear all about it! This year will be full of excitement, new experiences and new challenges. We have some fantastic topics this half term, that we have no doubt you will love.
In Reading, our class novel is Little Badman and the Invasion of the Killer Aunties by Humza Arshad and Henry White. Little Badman, follows the story of Humza Khan, who faces a bizarre situation at school. The teachers all start disappearing and being replaced by suspicious aunties. We will use our reading skills to dive into the story and analyse it further.
In English, we will be focussing on the novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret. We will be creating our own set of instructions on 'How to build an automaton' and using the novel as inspiration, we will write our first piece of descriptive writing.
In Geography, we will be investigating land use across the UK. We will be learning all about the difference between urban and rural land and its uses. Additionally, we will be creating our own sketch map based on the land surrounding school.
In Science, we will be investigating different types of forces. We have some thrilling experiments planned, including creating our own parachutes, to measure the amount of air resistance.
For this half term and the beginning of next half term, we will be taking part in forest school on a Wednesday afternoon. The children will be split into two groups, with each group taking part in forest school for 5 weeks. Your child will be notified when their block of forest school sessions are. Please ensure your child has a pair of wellies available in school and attends school in appropriate clothing on their days.
