4- Kingfishers
Welcome to Year 4
Teacher: Miss Fallows
Class TA's: Miss Shan & Miss Begum

Hello Kingfishers!
Miss Fallows, Miss Shan and Miss Begum are excited to see you all back in school.
In English, we’ll be exploring a story called The Dark. We will be writing a letter, an innovated version of the story and an explanation text.
In Maths, we start work on multiplication and division. We will continue our hard work with mastering our times tables, which will support our learning in many other areas of maths.
In Science, we’ll be exploring the three States of Matter. We will learn about the properties of solids, liquids and gases and will complete a fair test using thermometers and stopwatches.
In geography, we are learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. To further extend our learning we will be designing an earthquake-resistant structure in DT and will put it to the test using a wobble board.
PE will take place on Tuesday mornings this half-term and children will go swimming on Thursday mornings. Swimming is a statutory part of the National Curriculum and all children must attend swimming lessons. Any questions please ask me or a teaching assistant. Please make sure children have their full PE/swimming kit in school, ready for lessons.
Reading books should be taken home each day for children to read to an adult and record their progress in their reading records. We encourage all children to read for at least five minutes each evening, as regular reading has a hugely positive impact on learning right across the curriculum.
Spellings will be sent home each Friday as homework to learn for the following week. We aim to complete spelling tests on a Friday, but this may change from time to time.
If you have any questions at all about supporting your child, or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact us.
We’re looking forward to a brilliant term full of curiosity, creativity, and discovery in the Kingfishers class!
