Welcome to Year 4 Kingfishers!

Miss Fallows and Miss Shan are so excited to welcome you all back on Tuesday morning for the start of an exciting year of learning. We have lots of fantastic topics planned and can’t wait to get started together.

In English, we’ll be diving into a story inspired by Ancient Egypt. Through this, we’ll develop our descriptive writing skills by creating vivid setting descriptions, and we’ll also practise writing clear and detailed instructions.

In Maths, our focus begins with place value, helping us build a strong foundation for the year ahead. We’ll also be working hard towards mastering all of our times tables, which will support our learning in many other areas of maths.

In Science, we’ll be exploring the animal kingdom, learning how to group animals based on their features and using classification keys to investigate the similarities and differences between them.

Our History topic this term is Ancient Egypt. Are you ready to travel back in time and uncover the secrets of how the ancient Egyptians lived, worked, and worshipped? We’ll be historians, detectives, and storytellers as we learn all about this fascinating civilisation. Art lessons will also be linked to the Ancient Egypt topic, where children will design and make their own Canopic jar.

PE will take place twice a week, on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Please make sure children have their full PE kit in school, ready for Wednesday 3rd September.

Reading books will be sent home once we have assessed the children. We encourage all children to read for at least five minutes each evening, as regular reading has a hugely positive impact on learning right across the curriculum.

Spellings will be sent home each Friday as homework to learn for the following week. Spelling tests will take place on a Friday.
