Welcome to Sparrows 1!

We hope you have had a lovely summer and are ready for this autumn term. 

This half term, our focus subjects are Art and Geography. In Art, we will be learning about the artist Picasso. We will be creating our own artwork, focusing on portraits and face shapes. 

In Geography, our topic is Where in the World. We will be exploring parts of the UK and famous landmarks within England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

In Maths, we will be learning about place value. We will secure counting forward and backwards as well as number facts such as one more and one less. 

In English, we will be studying the story The Three Little Pigs. We will rehearse, act and eventually write a shortened retell of the text. 

In Year 1, all of our children access Read Write Inc., meaning children will have the opportunity to read and develop their spelling on a daily basis.  In the classroom, we have a wide range of literature that children can access in the reading corner.  The books we provide are diverse and set an appropriate level for our Year 1 children to enjoy. 

PE is on a Tuesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon,every week.  The children need to make sure they have their PE Kit in school every day. For this half-term, the children will be developing the fundamental movement skills such as running, hopping, skipping and jumping.
