Welcome to Sparrows 1!

Welcome back to another exciting year at Barden! We hope you have had a wonderful holiday and we cannot wait to see you all!  This half-term, our topic is 'Where in the world are we?'. Our focus topics are Geography and Art. In geography, we will be learning about the United Kingdom, including its countries and the surrounding seas.  We will also look at where we are in relation to the map.   In Art, we are going to be learning all about Pablo Picasso and exploring cubism to create our own self-portraits. 

In English, we use a narrative to help us with our learning.  We will be using the story 'Harry the happy mouse' to support our learning.  The children will be exploring and innovating a narrative to create their own version of a known story.  Our non-fiction focus for this half-term will be creating an information text about mice.

In year 1, all of our children access Read Write Inc., meaning children will have the opportunity to read and develop their spelling on a daily basis.  In the classroom, we have a wide range of literature that children can access in the reading corner.  The books we provide are diverse and set an appropriate level for our year 1 children to enjoy. 

PE is on a Tuesday morning and a Wednesday afternoon every week.  The children need to make sure they have their PE Kit in school every day. For this half-term, the children will be developing the fundamental movement skill of overarm throwing, developing and applying the skill in different situations.
