Welcome to Sparrows 1!

Welcome back to another half term at Barden! We hope you have had a wonderful week and we are excited fro an exciting term as we build up to Christmas!  This half-term, our topic is 'Remember, Remember'. Our focus topics are History and DT. In History, we will be learning about the reason why we celebrate bonfire night every year, looking at the Gunpowder Plot and Guy Fawkes.  In DT, we will be exploring moving mechanisms, finding different ways of getting the children's creations to move, leading them to making their own moving mechanism. 

In English, we use a narrative to help us with our learning.  We will be using the story 'Supertato' to support our learning.  The children will be exploring and innovating a narrative to create their own version of a known story.  Our non-fiction focus for this half-term will be creating an information text about mice.

In year 1, all of our children access Read Write Inc., meaning children will have the opportunity to read and develop their spelling on a daily basis.  In the classroom, we have a wide range of literature that children can access in the reading corner.  The books we provide are diverse and set an appropriate level for our year 1 children to enjoy. 

PE is on a Tuesday morning and a Wednesday afternoon every week.  The children need to make sure they have their PE Kit in school every day. For this half-term, the children will be developing the fundamental movement skill of overarm throwing, developing and applying the skill in different situations.
