  Welcome to Robins 1

Welcome to Robins 1!

W

hope you have had a lovely break and you are ready for the summer term!

This half-term, our focus topics are DT and Geography.  Our DT topic this half-term is all about wind turbines. In this topic, the children will be learning about wind turbines and how how to use different techniques to make a structure (a wind turbine!).

Our Geography topic this half-term is all about our local area. We will be exploring our local area, looking at the landmarks that are famous in Burnely, exploring old maps and images of the area and learning how to read a compass in relation to a map.  The children will look at planning routes to walk in the local area using their map skills.

In Maths we are exploring multiplication and division, fractions and shape and position.

In English, we will be exploring our film unit, Peter Rabbit.  We will be using the story Peter Rabbit to explore the different characters and settings to help us to innovate the story and write our own shortened version.  Our non-fiction outcome will be making instructions to help rabbits steal vegetables from Mr McGregor!

In Year 1, all of our children access Read Write Inc., meaning children will have the opportunity to read and develop their spelling on a daily basis.  In the classroom, we have a wide range of literature that children can access in the reading corner.  The books we provide are diverse and set an appropriate level for our Year 1 children to enjoy.

PE is on a Monday afternooon and a Wednesday morning.  The children need to make sure they have their PE Kit in school every day. For this half-term, the children will be developing the fundamental movement skill of overarm throwing, developing and applying the skill in different situations.
