Autumn Term 2

Welcome back. We are looking forward to another busy half term. Please read through the information below to help you and your child understand all that will be happening throughout our school year.

RESIDENTIAL VISIT

In the last week of Autumn Term 1 we visited Whitehough Outdoor Education Centre. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills outside the classroom. We took part in activities such as climbing, archery, Jacob's ladder and The Leap of Faith. We had a great time even if we did have to make our own beds, tidy our rooms and set the table!

Have a look at the photographs below.

FUNDRAISING

In October we organised our own fund raising event as part of our Natural Disasters topic. We chose to raise money for the people who were affected by the earthquake in Kashmir. All classes were invited to take part in games, have a go at the Lucky Dip or buy homemade items such as cakes and bookmarks. We raised £288 on the day.

READING

In Year 6, we like to promote a love of reading. Throughout the year, we will be encouraging your child to read with independence; leading to a real love of reading for pleasure. Please listen to your child read a little every day and sign in their reading record once a week. Your child can win prizes for the most reading at home. Your child will be reading from a reading scheme or free reading books, the library, during guided reading sessions and hopefully they will join book club! Library sessions are on Wednesday morning, please can we have books ready to hand back on this day. Your child can independently change their scheme book once they have finished and discussed it with us. Children can also borrow books from our classroom reading area if they want to!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Please note that P.E. is on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. This half term we will be focusing on dance and football. Can we please have the correct kit in school to enable your child to participate confidently. The children must have indoor pumps as well as outdoor trainers for PE.

HOMEWORK

We will send homework out on a Friday of each week and this must be ready to be handed in by the following Wednesday. Sometimes we might ask you to complete ‘open’ project style activities which your child will be given longer to complete. The children will get slightly more homework during the spring term on the run up to their SATs exams. Your child will bring home spellings on a Tuesday and be tested on the following Tuesday. All homework will be reinforcing skills learnt in school, please support your child with this as much as needed.
