WELCOME

Welcome to Year 4. Please read through the information below to help you and your child understand all that will be happening during our school year. If you have any questions please speak to one of the team.

READING

In Year 4, we want children to develop a love of reading. To support them on this journey we will be reading a class novel, exploring a range of texts in English and concentrating on specific reading skills during guided reading. To help your child at home please listen to your child read at home a little each day. To encourage a love of reading we are happy for your child to read a range of texts to you at home, including newspapers, library books, comics or magazines. However, please make sure that at least twice a week your child reads their scheme book. Your child can turn your signature into prizes, so it is important you sign each time you hear your child read. Children can change their home reading book independently. They will also have chance to visit the Library on a Thursday, these books should be returned to school weekly so they can be accounted for. Our classroom library is also stocked with a range of books that children can borrow as they wish. We hope you will support us in helping your child grow into a confident reader.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please note that P.E. is on Tuesday. Please ensure your child has the correct kit in school to enable them to participate confidently.  Swimming will be taking place on Thursday mornings. Your child will need their swimming kits in for this day. You might want to get the kit ready in school at the start of the week so that your child has everything ready for the day.

HOMEWORK

Homework will be given out on a Friday, this should be returned to school by the following Thursday. Occasionally, we will ask you to complete family learning projects; these are designed to be enjoyable for all the family, whilst supporting your child’s learning.  Your child may also be given spellings or times tables to learn and extra learning for English and Maths. Please support your child with their home learning as much as possible and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to speak to us.
