2- Wagtails

Wagtails

Mrs Horner, Mrs Kenniford, Mrs McNulty

Welcome to Year 2. Please read through the information below to help you and your child understand all that will be happening in our school year.

READING

We encourage lots of reading in Wagtails.

In Year 2, we like to promote a love of reading. Throughout the year, we will be encouraging your child to read with independence; leading to a real love of reading for pleasure.

Your child needs to bring their reading book to school every day.  Their book will be changed once a week.

Teachers will not hear your child read their home reading book. Instead we will hear them read individually each week in a guided reading session. We will record in their home reading book when they have read at school.

Please try and listen to your child read every day, signing their reading record each time you listen to them and add any comments you wish regarding your child’s reading.

P.E

PE will be on a Tuesday and Thursday.  Your child will not be able to take part in PE lessons if they do not have the correct kit.
PE Kit: White T-shirt, Black shorts or close fitting leggings, Pumps.

We will be doing lots of outdoor P.E. lessons so you may wish to also send your child with a pair of outdoor trainers.

Please ensure your child’s PE kit is fully labelled with their name on and in a labelled PE bag. No rucksacks please, we do not have sufficient space in the cloak room area.

Please can you make sure your child has a pair of labelled wellies in school and a waterproof coat. We go out no matter what the weather.

Homework
Your child will have spellings to learn each week.  They will have a test every Friday.
Your child should read their reading book every day.

Your child will receive topic homework each half term. They will be given a range of tasks and can choose to do as many as they wish. This should be returned to school the Monday of the last week in the half term.

Your child will be given their Maths Rockstars log in so that they can practice their times tables at home.

Homework should be completed in pencil.  Please try and encourage your child to do their homework on their own.
