Welcome to Wagtails 2!

Hope you have all had an amazing summer and are ready to begin your time in Year 2.  We are all so excited to meet you and watch you grow and learn this year.

Autumn Term 1 2025

Our history-led topic this half-term is 'Burnley Back in Time'.  We will be learning all about Towneley Hall, Victorian schools and the toys Victorian children played with.  We will make comparisons to modern-day school life and toys today.  In Art, we will learn all about observational drawings.  We will study the artwork of the Boyle Family and study Lowry's industrial work. 

In English, we will be writing an animal adventure story based around the story 'Way Home for Wolf' by Rachel Bright.

 In Maths, we will be developing our place value and number skills.

Our Class Novel is 'Meerkat Mail' by Emily Gravett

Daily Reading:

Children are expected to read five times a week, as per the English Lead's advice. Parents/Guardians should sign their children's Reading Record when they have read with their children. Please access Oxford Owl to read with your children online, as well as reading their book bag book.

Times Tables:

This year, children will be introduced to the 2, 5 and 10 Times Tables. We will regularly practise these in class and will also teach the children songs to remember them. Please, where possible, could you encourage your children in learning these.

PE:

Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school. This should not be taken home until the end of the term, unless it needs washing.
